This Master’s program focuses on a scholarly and practical approach to using the German language as a foreign and second language, incorporating elements of cultural studies and intercultural dialogue. Students are trained in didactic and methodological competencies for teaching German as a foreign and second language, which includes developing teaching materials and curricula.
The program is organized over four semesters, culminating in a thesis and a final examination. It comprises various modules covering foundational research areas, linguistic frameworks, and practical teaching methods, alongside a phase dedicated to independent research and the completion of a master’s thesis.
Graduates will acquire competencies in language acquisition, intercultural communication, and multilingualism, equipping them to engage in language policy and development. They will be skilled in planning, conducting, and evaluating targeted support measures for varied student populations, particularly in the realm of language education.

The level of legalisation your certificates need depends on your country of origin:
Apostille
If your country is part of the Hague Apostille Convention, an Apostille from the competent authority of the issuing country is sufficient.
No legalisation
A small number of countries have a bilateral agreement with Austria and need no further legalisation.
Full diplomatic legalisation
For all other countries: the full chain — pre-certification by the issuing country's authorities (e.g. Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs), then legalisation by the competent Austrian representation (embassy/consulate).
Translations are usually done after legalisation. Check the required order with the issuing authorities and the Austrian representation.
