Preparing your application documents

Most application delays come from documents, not decisions. Start this early — some steps (legalization, translation) take weeks.

The core document set

  • Passport (valid well beyond your intended stay)
  • Secondary school leaving certificate / prior degree
  • Academic transcripts
  • Proof of language proficiency (English and/or German)
  • CV and motivation letter (program-dependent)

Legalization and translation

Documents issued outside Austria often need legalization (apostille or embassy authentication) and a certified translation into German or English.

Don't leave this to the last week

Apostille and certified translation can each take 1–3 weeks. Begin as soon as you have your shortlist.
