Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The Joint Ph.D Study in Molecular Biosciences is a collaborative program between the Medical University of Vienna and the University of Vienna, designed to foster interdisciplinary research in biosciences. Students are required to secure a supervision agreement with a designated Ph.D. supervisor and engage with various thematic programs available. This program equips graduates with the skills necessary for independent research, preparing them for academic and industrial positions in the biosciences sector.
The curriculum covers advanced topics such as molecular biology, cell biology, and genomics, fostering a strong foundation in research methodologies. Students engage with contemporary challenges in biosciences, facilitating a thorough understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying biological processes.
The program is structured over 6 semesters, comprising a combination of coursework, research projects, and dissertation work. Students are also encouraged to attend workshops and seminars to enhance their research competencies.
Graduates will possess advanced research skills, critical thinking abilities, and the capacity for independent scientific work. They will be well-prepared for roles in academia, research institutions, and the biotechnological industry.

The level of legalisation your certificates need depends on your country of origin:
Apostille
If your country is part of the Hague Apostille Convention, an Apostille from the competent authority of the issuing country is sufficient.
No legalisation
A small number of countries have a bilateral agreement with Austria and need no further legalisation.
Full diplomatic legalisation
For all other countries: the full chain — pre-certification by the issuing country's authorities (e.g. Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs), then legalisation by the competent Austrian representation (embassy/consulate).
Translations are usually done after legalisation. Check the required order with the issuing authorities and the Austrian representation.
