Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The Doctoral Programme of Applied Medical Science at the Medical University of Vienna aims at further developing competencies for self-directed scientific work in medical and related professions. The program focuses on applied research and the integration of research with practice. Candidates are expected to acquire critical, analytic, and argumentative skills throughout the program, preparing them for a professional career in medicine.
Students study advanced epidemiological methods, principles of public health, and statistical analysis. Topics include disease prevention, epidemiological research design, and data interpretation.
The program is structured over six semesters, incorporating coursework and research phases. Students must present their findings at symposiums and complete a cumulative dissertation based on three research papers.
Graduates develop expertise in research design, critical evaluation of scientific literature, and advanced data analysis skills. They are equipped with the competencies to contribute to public health policy and epidemiological research.

The level of legalisation your certificates need depends on your country of origin:
Apostille
If your country is part of the Hague Apostille Convention, an Apostille from the competent authority of the issuing country is sufficient.
No legalisation
A small number of countries have a bilateral agreement with Austria and need no further legalisation.
Full diplomatic legalisation
For all other countries: the full chain — pre-certification by the issuing country's authorities (e.g. Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs), then legalisation by the competent Austrian representation (embassy/consulate).
Translations are usually done after legalisation. Check the required order with the issuing authorities and the Austrian representation.
