In the Doktoratsstudium Künstlerische Forschung (PhD in Art), students focus on independent artistic research contributing to the development of the arts. The program emphasizes artistic practice as a foundation for knowledge production, exploring specific methods and production processes through personal artistic projects.
The program is organized over six semesters and includes attendance at courses, colloquia, and the completion of a doctoral thesis. The thesis can take the form of a singular artistic research project or a series of interconnected artistic works.
Graduates are equipped to produce independent artistic research at international standards, fulfill coordinating and leadership roles. They gain the ability to generate new insights into specific issues in the arts and communicate their research results effectively.

The level of legalisation your certificates need depends on your country of origin:
Apostille
If your country is part of the Hague Apostille Convention, an Apostille from the competent authority of the issuing country is sufficient.
No legalisation
A small number of countries have a bilateral agreement with Austria and need no further legalisation.
Full diplomatic legalisation
For all other countries: the full chain — pre-certification by the issuing country's authorities (e.g. Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs), then legalisation by the competent Austrian representation (embassy/consulate).
Translations are usually done after legalisation. Check the required order with the issuing authorities and the Austrian representation.
