Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
This PhD programme aims at training the next generation of young scientists in cognitive biology, providing them with a broad foundation in evolutionary theory, comparative thinking, experimental design, and behavioural analysis. Projects include investigations of phenomena like overimitation through comparative studies involving dogs and children. Graduates of this program develop expertise in understanding complex cognitive processes across species, preparing them for careers in academia, research, or applied cognitive science.
Students study cognitive biology with emphasis on evolutionary theories and behavioural analysis. Topics include comparative cognition, cognitive evolution, and methodologies in studying animal behaviour.
The program is structured across six semesters, culminating in a doctoral thesis. It includes coursework and research phases, with opportunities for internships.
Graduates gain in-depth knowledge of cognitive processes, research methodologies, and skills in experimental design. They acquire the ability to conduct independent research and contribute to advancements in cognitive science.

The level of legalisation your certificates need depends on your country of origin:
Apostille
If your country is part of the Hague Apostille Convention, an Apostille from the competent authority of the issuing country is sufficient.
No legalisation
A small number of countries have a bilateral agreement with Austria and need no further legalisation.
Full diplomatic legalisation
For all other countries: the full chain — pre-certification by the issuing country's authorities (e.g. Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs), then legalisation by the competent Austrian representation (embassy/consulate).
Translations are usually done after legalisation. Check the required order with the issuing authorities and the Austrian representation.
