Master of Science (MSc)
The TRANSFOR-M program is a two-year exchange program that leads to dual Master's degrees in Forestry and Environmental Management from European and Canadian institutions. Students are trained in up-to-date sustainable forestry and environmental management practices that consider cultural differences. The program emphasizes a global perspective on environmental, economic, and cultural issues and includes studying in both Europe and Canada.
Students study sustainable forestry practices, environmental management strategies, and cultural considerations related to forestry. The curriculum is designed to equip students with practical knowledge and an understanding of global forestry issues.
The program consists of two years, with the first year spent at a Canadian university and the second year at BOKU. Students will undergo coursework, project work, and a master’s thesis overseen by supervisors from both universities.
Graduates will gain competencies in sustainable forestry and environmental management, coupled with skills in cross-cultural communication and critical thinking. They will be equipped to tackle global challenges in forestry and land management.

Third-country (non-EU/EEA) applicants generally need to have their prior qualifications legalised and translated for the admission application. Exact rules depend on the country that issued each document — always confirm with the university's admissions office.

The level of legalisation your certificates need depends on your country of origin:
Apostille
If your country is part of the Hague Apostille Convention, an Apostille from the competent authority of the issuing country is sufficient.
No legalisation
A small number of countries have a bilateral agreement with Austria and need no further legalisation.
Full diplomatic legalisation
For all other countries: the full chain — pre-certification by the issuing country's authorities (e.g. Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs), then legalisation by the competent Austrian representation (embassy/consulate).
Translations are usually done after legalisation. Check the required order with the issuing authorities and the Austrian representation.
After admission: proof of sufficient funds, health insurance and the student residence permit are part of the visa process — not university admission. We cover those in the guides.
